Bayside Landfill | Ocala, Florida, USA | Client: Waste Management

The Bayside Landfill is a Class III waste landfill owned and operated by Waste Management. The landfill had only three months of life remaining before Globex was retained by Waste Management. Globex was hired to redesign the landfill permitted grades and surface water management system on the landfill surface to increase the remaining landfill airspace and simplify construction of the surface water management system.  Globex prepared a permit application to permit the modified landfill grades using the Globex innovative final cover system design.  The application was submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) for review. Globex met with the FDEP permit reviewer and provided technical documentation to support the proposed modifications. The permit was issued by the FDEP within a short period of time, and the modification added approximately three and a half years to the landfill life. 

Globex also evaluated the surface water management system on the landfill slopes. The permitted system included 17 concrete structures with a complicated downchute piping system on the landfill slopes. Globex redesigned the system using innovative drainage swales and a downchute system developed by Globex. Globex prepared a permit application to permit the proposed changes to the surface water management system. The proposed changes were permitted by the FDEP within a short period of time. Globex was able to eliminate construction of all 17 concrete structures, which generated significant savings for the owner and simplified construction of the downchute pipes.
