Glades Landfill is a 145-acre regional construction and demolition (C&D) debris landfill with waste flow of approximately 1,500 tons per day. The landfill is located in Glades County, Florida, and is owned and operated by Waste Management, Inc. Glades Landfill is the first lined C&D debris landfill in the State of Florida. Globex has performed numerous projects at Glades Landfill since 2005. A list of activities performed by Globex at the Glades Landfill is presented below:
Design and Permitting – Landfill
Permit modifications to the initial permit of the facility prior to the development of the facility; modifications to the base grades of the first phase to increase airspace capacity and to reduce structural fill quantity for the construction of the first phase of development; design and permitting a lateral/vertical expansion of the landfill to increase the waste disposal footprint from 8 acres to 145 acres, and to increase the height of the landfill from 60 ft to 145 ft; design and permitting of an innovative final cover system to increase the landfill airspace; design and permitting of an entrance facility including administrative buildings and a scale; and design and permitting of an expansion to the adjacent highway to create a turning lane for waste trucks entering the facility.
Design and Permitting – Landfill Leachate
Permitting revisions to the leachate collection system and design and permitting of two double-lined leachate storage ponds.
Design and Permitting – Landfill Gas
Design and permitting of a passive gas collection system consisted of 100 gas vents with special features developed in the facility operation plan for control of objectionable odor from the facility.
Surface Water Management
Design and permitting of a temporary stormwater management system for the construction of each phase of the landfill without the need for the construction of the entire stormwater management system for the 223-acre site; and NPDES permitting.
Construction Related Activities
Preparation of phasing plans, construction drawings, bid documents, soil testing, provision of technical services, construction management and construction quality assurance services, and construction certification.
Compliance Monitoring – Water Quality
Semiannual ground water monitoring, including coordination of sampling and laboratory analysis, evaluation of data, and reporting; installation of monitoring wells; and coordination of sampling and laboratory testing, evaluation, and reporting of leachate generated at the landfill.
Annual Reporting – Landfill
Preparation of closure and long-terms care cost estimates; annual remaining airspace report; and annual financial model.
Miscellaneous
Coordination with the local wastewater treatment plant to establish a contract for the disposal of leachate generated at the landfill; development of landfill phasing plans with available airspace for each phase of the waste disposal area; and development of material schedules for the construction of each phase of the landfill.
