LP Sanitation | Okeechobee, Florida, USA | Client: Waste Management

LP Sanitation was a waste hauling company owned by Waste Management. The LP Sanitation Facility, located in Okeechobee, Florida, was the collection trucks base serving Okeechobee County. In 1999, Waste Management closed the facility and sold the property. The facility included an underground storage tank that had to be abandoned prior to the sale of the property. Globex prepared the plan for the abandonment of the 10,000 gallon underground tank. Globex observed the abandonment of the tank and performed on-site monitoring of the soils excavated. The monitoring results and visual observations indicated leaks from the dispensers that had contaminated soils around the tank.

In accordance with the plan, all contaminated soils were stockpiled over ground protecting liners and subsequently transported to the Okeechobee Landfill for disposal. Globex collected soil and ground water samples for analysis. The results of the analysis indicated high levels of benzene and several other hydrocarbon contaminants. Globex prepared a plan for the removal of the contaminated soils. Globex observed and monitored soil excavated from the area in the vicinity of the underground tank. Two separate excavation events were required to ensure all contaminated soils were removed from the excavation.

Globex also collected samples from the ground water monitoring well in the vicinity of the underground tank. The results of the soil and ground water analysis following the two excavation events confirmed that contaminated soils were removed.  Globex prepared final reports regarding the cleanup activities and submitted these reports to the Health Department in Okeechobee and FDEP in West Palm Beach. The final no-action approval was issued by the Health Department.
