Prologis Business Park | Pompano Beach, Florida, USA | Client: Prologis Development

Prologis Development purchased a 17-acre parcel of land in Pompano Beach, Florida,  to develop three industrial warehouses over 300,000 ft2 in area. The parcel of land included a borrow lake which was filled with clean debris.  Globex designed and permitted a passive gas collection system below each warehouse building to prevent gases generated from the debris in the ground from entering the buildings. The passive gas collection system included series of parallel lines of 12-inch wide, 1-inch thick porous media wrapped in geotextile (geovent) at 50 feet spacing. The geovents were placed over a 6-inch thick granular layer of sand. A layer of geomembrane was constructed above the granular sand layer and geovents.  This system was located several feet below the building pads to prevent conflicts with the building foundation.  The geovents were connected to gas headers below surface and outside the boundaries of the geomembrane barrier layer. The gas headers were connected to risers extending to the building roof. The risers were connected to specialized venting heads to release gas to the air. The granular sand layer and geovents collect gas generated by the debris below the building and convey the gas through the gas headers and risers to the roof of the building for venting. This system prevents gases below the building pad from entering the buildings. Globex prepared construction drawings for the construction of the passive gas collection system and coordinated with the owner and the contractor during construction of the system. The constructed system was certified by Globex at completion.
